Virginia Arts Festival
Since its beginning in 1997, the Virginia Arts Festival has brought outstanding musical and dance performances to the citizens of Virginia Beach. The festival runs during the months of April and May each year. Musical performances include many genres of music including classical, jazz, rock and folk. The festival also includes theatrical performances that feature many well-known stars among the cast members.
Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival
The Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival takes place each year at the end of May and the beginning of June. The event is intended to celebrate the contribution to the nation of those men and women who serve and have served in the United States armed forces. Several military displays are held by the ocean including a very popular airshow that features fantastic displays of aerial acrobatics and formation flying. The festival also includes many top musical acts from around the world.
Boardwalk Art Show and Festival
Father's Day weekend is the date for Virginia Beach's Boardwalk Art Show and Festival. Hundreds of artists working in a variety of mediums display their work for sale during the festival period. This event is conducted at the oceanfront boardwalk between the areas of 17th and 24th Streets.
American Music Festival
Labor Day weekend is all about music in Virginia Beach during the American Music Festival. Visitors to the festival will enjoy the sounds of rock, country, jazz, and blues. The main stage is located at the beach on 5th Street. Other musical acts perform in the parks throughout the greater Virginia Beach area. In addition to the great music, visitors have numerous food and beverage choices during the festival.
Holiday Lights at the Beach
Holiday Lights at the Beach occurs each year in Virginia Beach from the end of November through New Year's Day. All 30 blocks of the city that run along the ocean are decked out in holiday light displays.
North American Sand Soccer Championships
Virginia Beach is the home of the North American Sand Soccer Championships held each year in June. The event attracts over 20,000 players from across the United States to the city's beaches. In addition to the soccer tournament, beach rugby, wrestling, and tennis tournaments are also conducted.
Each May at Mount Trashmore Park, the dogs take over at the K-9 Karnival. All dogs and owners are invited to enjoy a day of fun that includes flyball, agility, and other dog sports. Search and rescue dog demonstrations are given, and there is a dog adoption event.
